As a SIT user, how can I use this tool?

You can explore insider sentiment for popular pre-defined baskets such as SPY, QQQ, SOXX, and others. Alternatively, you can create your own custom watchlist — for example, by selecting stocks from your personal portfolio — and analyze insider activity and trends within that specific group of companies.
Don't forget to log in to access and manage your existing watchlists!

How do you calculate the chart for custom baskets like FAANG?

Since there is no officially traded FAANG ETF, we use a synthetic (artificial) index to represent its performance. This index is calculated daily using the weighted average of the individual stock prices that make up the basket (e.g., Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google). The weights are either equal or based on market cap — depending on the basket configuration — and updated alongside EOD data.

What are the limitations of this sentiment analyzer?

The SIT sentiment analysis relies on insider transaction data. This means it can only generate meaningful insights for instruments (stocks or ETFs) that have recent and sufficient insider activity. If there are no insider trades, sentiment cannot be determined — or may be considered insignificant.

Should I buy a PUT option on SPY, QQQ, or SOXX when all the cells are green? Isn't that a signal to sell?

Please be cautious. A fully green matrix doesn't necessarily mean it's time to sell. The SIT platform is designed primarily for mid- to long-term investing and swing trading. We do not encourage short-selling strategies.

What does it mean when the 'Overall Statistics' grid is full of zeros?

This typically happens when there has been no insider activity during the selected period. When there is no trading or insider-related transactions, the statistics will show zeros across the grid. This indicates that the data for that period is absent due to a lack of activity.

Is there a common pattern, like "when all cells are red, it's a buy signal", and vice versa?

Not necessarily. While heavy insider selling might create a "red zone", it doesn't always mean the stock will decline — insiders often sell at strong price levels, and the asset can continue to rise. The sentiment analyzer is best used as a complementary signal, not a standalone indicator.

What you can observe, however, is a trend where cells gradually shift from red to green — which may indicate a positive insider sentiment reversal.

What types of baskets does SIT support?

The SIT platform can analyze the following types of baskets:

  • Custom baskets: Famous non-official lists like FAANG, MAG7, etc.
  • ETF baskets: Examples include SPY, QQQ, and others.
  • Index baskets: Such as DAX, SMI, and more.
  • Watchlists (portfolios): Create and analyze your own basket. Available for paid SIT subscribers.
What does IAS stand for?

IAS stands for Insider Activity Score — one of the fundamental metrics of the SIT platform. It measures how active insiders are within a given public company.

We explain IAS in detail in our Methodology and have also published a dedicated blog post about it.

Additionally, IAS is a key feature used by our machine learning model, Stock Sense.

Why aren't all links in the 'holdings' section clickable?

Not all companies may have insider transactions, which is why the SIT platform does not display data for such companies.

Why should we consider IAS when the S/B ratio already provides insight into current sentiment?

As the saying goes, "the devil is in the details": an all-time IAS may reveal that insider activity in a given company is extremely low, which could explain why a recent buy/sell transaction has caused a spike in the S/B ratio. That's why it's important to analyze both indicators together for a more comprehensive view.

How often does the SIT platform recalculate IAS and S/B metrics?

Both indicators are updated on a daily basis.

Can I say that an S/B ratio of 1 is fine, S/B = 2 or more means 'oversold', and so on?

Unfortunately, no. Each instrument has its own distribution of S/B ratios. Even a stock within a given ETF and the ETF itself would have completely different S/B ratios.
